How To Cheat At Bananagrams (Shhhh...)

If you're playing someone a little too smug for their own good, this guide might come in handy: how to cheat at Bananagrams.

The Seven Wordy Sins

Bananagrams is a word game that anyone can have a blast playing, no matter your vocabulary level or word building skills. But sometimes you might find yourself playing against some who is clearly better than you and even with the best tips and a lot of practice, you’re never going to beat them. There’s only one thing left to do. Cheat. Here’s seven suggestions on how to cheat while playing the anagram game that drives you bananas!

Less Is More – When the game begins, players are supposed to take 21 tiles. Take fewer to give yourself a little head start. Don’t take too few though or you’ll get caught. The less you take, the more spread out your tiles should be so they still look like a larger amount.

Are Their Eyes Peeled? – Good players tend to Peel often and rapidly during the game. So as they are shouting Peel, Peel, Peel… accidentally “forget” to take a tile here and there. If someone notices, play dumb!

Placeholder – Have one tile left that you can’t seem to place? Just stick it anywhere and continue playing until you can use it. No one will be inspecting your grid in the middle of the game. Don’t forget about it though!

Bananadash – Maybe your vocabulary isn’t the best. Make up words and be ready to define them. If you give your definition confidently, other players may not bother looking it up. Especially if you act like they’re stupid for not knowing your fake word!

Diversion – If you find yourself falling behind in a game, try to cause distractions to take your opponents’ mind off of their game. Talk to them. Ask them about words in their grids. “Accidentally” mess up their grid or “accidentally” drop a tile across the table. If you’re really behind, spill your drink all over the table so the game will have to stop. You won’t win but neither will they!

Sabotage – This one is tough but if you can somehow take a letter off a player’s grid or switch tiles around so that if they call Bananas, they’ll be a Rotten Banana! Utilize a Diversion to accomplish this without detection.

Cover Up And Win – If the game is just about at the end and there’s no tiles left to Peel, cover up your excess tiles and shout Bananas! Hopefully no one will notice what you did!

Hopefully, these deceitful tips will help you to cheat your way to victory! We’d like to hear how you cheat at Bananagrams so let us know on instagram and facebook.
